A while back I saw these really cute pumpkins in a catalog. They were made with metal and were black with orange polka dots and orange with white polka dots.
Since I don't work with metal, (that's my dear hubbies role) I decided to try and make some out of paper.
My first attempt, was not so good. LOL
I was on the right track for what I wanted to accomplish but this one had way too much open space and it was pretty flimsy. The pieces were too wide too.
So, I moved on. For this one I made strips 1/2' wide with brad holes in both ends. I cut about 15 pieces 8" long using my silhouette. I put those together but still didn't like it all that well. (sorry no pic)
Then, I decided it needed to be doubled so I made another 15 pieces, 1/2" wide by 7" long with brad holes in both ends as well. All of these pieces are created with the rounded corners.
I didn't have brads with a long enough shank so I used floral wire and created a "pin" from that and I threaded all the long pieces on it followed by all the short pieces
After that I made another pin and threaded all the short pieces on first and then all the long pieces over those. Once they were all threaded on I spread out the inside and outside pieces somewhat evenly.
I kind of like the look.
For the stem I just cut a piece of green and wrapped it around a pencil curly cue style and hot glued it to the top of the pumpkin. For the leaves I went on line and found a pumpkin leaf coloring page image, brought it into my Silhouette, traced it and made a cut shape, adjusted the size and cut them out. Then I embossed them with the Square Lattice embossing folder from Stampin' Up! and attached them with hot glue too.
What do you think? I'm sure I can make some that are smaller and larger by just adjusting the length of the pieces. Use some different colors and patterns and create a centerpiece.
Those that follow my blog I will put together a tutorial and send it and the file for the pieces out to you. If you don't follow my blog join me and I will send it to you too along with the other files I have created on my Silhouette.
