I'll try anything, once. I found this fabric at Walmart in their clearance bin for $1.00 a yard. It was shear and flowing and I thought it would make a great curtain on my front bedroom window that looks out into the driveway and the street. I don't like keeping my shades drawn all the time but really didn't like the idea of everyone who walks by or drives into my driveway being able to just peer into my bedroom.
I bought all they had which was about 8 yards. I brought it home, cut it into three equal lengths 7 feet long and hemmed the top edge with a loop that the curtain rod could slide through. Because I didn't cut the egde at all the salvage edges really didn't need to be hemmed I just left them as they were.
I had some large rubber stamps that I had collected in the past of three different butterflies and a hummingbird. I have no idea where I got them I've had them for so long. They were large enough to use for this project as I planned to stamp the fabric. I used fabric ink and sponged the color onto the stamps and then stamped the image onto the fabric.
My kitchen table was the perfect place to do this. I just covered the table with freezer paper to protect it from any bleed through and stamped away. I let each section dry before moving the fabric and starting a new section.
Here is the finished product.
I wasn't sure how it would turn out but qhat is really awesome is that the fabric is so shear that the images show through and look great from both sides.
I used all different colors of purples, yellows, oranges, pinks for the butterflies and tried to make the hummingbirds look as realistic as possible.
I'm thrilled with the result. What do you think? Will you give stamping fabric a try? I encourage you to give it a try.
