All of us demonstrators have our pre-orders by now and have started making some wonderful samples to share with you. You should have your catalogs to drool over and if you don't and would like one I'd love to be your demonstrator and send one to you or you can pick one up at my place if you're local.
So, today's card is called a Fancy Fold-Corner Fold card. One of my customers, (thanks Anita) gave me a call and said this was one of her go to folds and she wanted to get some tips on how to make them look nice, cut them etc. So the challenge was on.
There are loads of videos out there on how to cut the base card so I watched a couple and got measurements etc. Now, you can make these with just your Stampin' Trimmer but as you know I am a Silhouette Cameo owner as well so I designed the card base in my software program and I cut mine with the Silhouette. I will say that the Stampin' Trimmer works very well for this. I would not want to try and do this with an exacto knife although if you are good at that you might be able to do it that way as well.
Let me show you the basic design and give you measurements.
The base card is cut 5.5 x 8.5. Follow these steps to cut with your trimmer:
Lay the piece down in landscape mode and line the left edge up with the 3" mark. Then, set your blade at the 5/8" mark on the trimmer blade holder and cut from there down to the 3" mark.
- Now take your base card and flip it over and place it on the trimmer in portrait mode and again line up the left edge with the 3" mark. Place the cutting blade on the 5/8" mark on the slider that holds the blade and cut down to the 3" mark. Your two cut corners will meet and you will have two sides of a square cut out.
Now you flip the cut corner around and fold it down to make the front of the card. For this image I placed a piece of blue inside the card so you could see the front only. Hope this makes sense.
So are you ready to see what I did with the base card? I used Very Vanilla for the base of this card.
Supplies Used:
- Very Vanilla, Tangerine Tango, Crumb Cake card stock
- Tangerine Tango, Early Espresso, Lemon Lime Twist, Cajun Craze, Garden Green Ink Pads
- Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper
- Gourd Goodness, Pick A Pumpkin, Painted Harvest stamp sets
- Patterned Pumpkin Thinlits
- Big Shot
- Double Sided Adhesive sheet
For the front of the card I cut a 4.25 x 5 piece of the DSP to fit around the corner cut out . To do this I cut a 3x3 inch square out of the top right corner. Then I placed the paper on the card front and folded the card front into place creasing the DSP. Then I took the DSP out and cut away the areas that were creased. Then attached to the front of the card with Snail adhesive. (the sideways image you see is because I laid the flap out flat. When the flap is in place this image will be on the inside of the card as you'll see in a later photo.)
For the corner fold section on the card front I cut a layer of Tangeringe Tango 2 7/8" square and Very Vanilla 2 5/8 square to create the layers. The pumpkin is cut from the corner piece of DSP that I cut out to make the front using the die from Patterned Pumpkin Thinlits. I cut two pumpkins, one from the orange side and one with the leaf side showing and then fit the leaf printed pieces into the open spaces on the orange pumpkin. I cut the leaves and stems from the DSP that had green pattern on it using the same thinlits set.
Now here's a tip. That pumpkin is so delicate that to make it adhere I placed the DSP onto a piece of the Double Sided adhesive and then cut it out. Peel off the backing and stick it in place. This works so great for those delicate pieces. The Double Sided adhesive is available in the annual catalog page 203.
For the inside of the card I used various stamps from Gourd Goodness, Pick A Pumpkin stamp sets to stamp in various fall colors all over the left side of the card. I cut a piece of DSP 2 3/8" square and covered the base card square. Then I stamped the two pumpkins from Pick A Pumpkin stamp set with Tangerine Tango onto Very Vanilla and cut them out using the coordinating dies from Patterned Pumkin Thinlits. The sentiment comes from the Gourd Goodness stamp set and is stamped with Early Espresso.
The right side of the inside of the card is a 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 piece of Tangerine Tango topped with a 4 x 5 1/4 piece of crumb cake. I stamped the pumpkins from Gourd Goodness with Tangerine Tango, the stem with Garden Green and fussy cut them out attaching them with snail.
There you have it. My first sneak peek at some of the fall sets in the new Holiday Catalog. I can't wait to share more with you.
Let me know what you think.
