Birthdays are so fun! Even for those of us who are older. While we may not enjoy getting older we still enjoy it when someone near and dear to us recognizes our birthday and goes out of their way to treat us special. I am sure you will get lots of ideas of things you can make by checking out the other blogs on our hop today. My contribution is geared towards my 8 year old grandson who has his birthday this month. He is really into a game called Minecraft and he has told me that is what he wants for his theme.
I don't know much about the game so off to the computer I went to find what I could and start figuring out what to make. I began by making a "Creeper" box puzzle. To make this I used a box shape from the Silhouette library and sized it so that the box would be 2 inches square. I made them from Stampin' Up! basic black card stock and glued them together with Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky glue. I then found a "Creeper" face on the internet and enlarged it to an 8x8 square and printed it on glossy photo card stock. Once printed I cut it into 16, 2x2" squares and glued them to the top of each box. When put in order it makes the Creeper face but the boxes can be all stirred up and turned into a puzzle to be sorted and figured out so it can be used as a game as well. Each box has a prize inside of a Minecraft wristband and everyone at the party will get one to take home.
Next, I made a banner. For this I used the Lots of Labels framelits from Stampin' Up!. I scanned the second largest one and brought into the Silhouette so I could create print and cut shapes. I used pictures of various characters from the internet. I put two holes in the top of each one that the string will go through to hang because with two holes the banner pieces lay flat and have enough tension not to slide around on the string. I then punched out 8 background pieces using the larget die from the set and attached the printed labels to them. The backing pieces did not have holes in them so I used my Japanese Screw Punch to put holes in them just lining it up with the existing holes on the front pieces. I love this tool, the one I purchased comes with 6 different tips cutting a variety of holes and it will punch through just about anything.
Lastly I made the card. I wanted to make a pop up Creeper card but I just couldn't get my brain around the design so I opted for a swing flip card instead. I used the Flip Card file by Lori Whitlock from the Silhouette Store and cut the base from Whisper White card stock. Then I cut the mats from Garden Green and for the two side pieces I embossed them with the Brick Wall embossing folder and then stamped them with the Watercolor Wash ink pad to "age" them a little and give them more dimension. I printed the creeper face and the inside sentiment onto photo cardstock and cut them out to fit. I think it looks pretty cool and I am pretty sure my grandson will like it too.
So there you have it. This is all I've gotten made for the party so far. However, there are more wonderful ideas on the hop so don't stop here check out what the others have made, you won't be dissappointed!
