Some of you know that I am a member of a group called Soroptimist. We are an internation philanthropic organization that works to improve the lives of women and girls through social and economic empowerment.
Our local group meets twice a month and I have been making favors for each member for a few years. Our club is growing though and we now have over 50 members so individual favors got to be a little much to do so I moved on to making centerpieces for the tables instead.
Our next meeting is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving so I jumped at the chance to make those wonderful Pilgrim hats. They are called Pilgrim Large 3d Hat Decor, item#69320 by Snapdragon Snippets and it is in the Silhouette online store. You can find the tutorial HERE
This file is amazingly easy to assemble and comes with most of the embellishments you see on my hat. The only thing I added were the feathers which are item #47866 by Jennifer Wambach also in the store.
Here is a list of materials I used to make this:
- Hat is Bazzil dark brown textured card stock
- Band is just some striped paper I had don't have the brand
- Buckle is cut from Silhouette brand silver and gold foil
- Leaves and Wheat are cut from Coor'dinations glittler card stock
- Remaining embellishments are from Stampin' Up! card stock - Early espresso, Lost Lagoon, Blackberry Bliss, Mellow Moss, Very Vanilla
- Basic Jewels Pearls by Stampin' Up!
- Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky Glue
A couple of hints to help utilize your materials. The word Thanksgiving can be placed in the middle of one of the hat brim pieces since that doesn't get used when building the project.
Also if you are making multiples you can conserve more by arranging the pieces as I've shown here in my screen shot. If you arrange them this way you get enough panel pieces to make a third hat and save one full sheet of 12x12 in the process.
Here are some closeups of the embellishments:
These are really great looking and I think they'll even fit on my grandson's heads so they can play with them after I'm done using them on the table.
Hope you enjoyed the view. Leave me a comment, I'd love to hear from you. And if you make this wonderful project I'd love to see how you make it your own.
