June Is Wedding Month

June is a very popular wedding month so I decided to share a few wedding, anniversary cards I made.

These were all made using 100% Stampin' Up!

This first one was super easy. I cut the "towel" rectangles from Whisper White card stock and embossed them with Petals A Plenty embossing folder. I cut a strip of card stock for the "towel bar" and folded them over it. I added tiny silver brads for the "hardware"

I made this one with the Dress Up framelits and again I used the Petals A Plenty embossing folder on the bodice of the dress. On the bottom of the dress I stamped a flourish and embossed it with silver embossing powder. Some rhinestones at the waist really "dress" up the dress. The man's tux was easy just cut a triangle from white card stock, place it onto the black background add the bow tie and buttons and you're good to go.

For this last one I used the dress up framelits for the dress changed out the rhinestones with some 1/8" silver ribbon and a flower and framed the card front with the Tulips embossing folder.

These were a lot of fun to make. If you're in the need of some wedding cards I hope these provide some inspiration.

I Love Print and Cut

One of the features I use on my Silhouette Cameo a lot is the Print & Cut. It is so cool to be able to design and print my own projects.

I recently took on the position of Chair Person for our Soroptimist International of Sequim, Gala Garden Show. One of our major fundraisers held the third weekend each March we raise around 20K to use in our various projects throughout the year. Our tag line is "Best For Women" and our projects are based on the mission of Soroptimist International of America which is "Improving the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment."

I will be holding a "kick-off" meeting with the various committee heads and I wanted to give each of them something to take home with them. So I made buttons.

This was easily done with the tools available in my Silhouette Cameo software.

I typed the words and attached them to a circle so I could get the rounded shape, colored them with the color fill tool and the eye dropper which let me copy the correct color from an existing logo. The flower is our logo for the Garden Show and I brought it in but it had a white background so I used the trace feature to pull off the white background and then colored it and increased the transparency so it was a softer look that could be printed over. The green text is just simple text colored with the fill tool and the logo I brought in and added.

The pins had those pesky pokey pins on the back. I removed those and added . They are not expensive. I found some on Amazon.com. They come with a very sticky strip to adhere them to the buttons so they are very secure. I also found the there and they can be opened up and new inserts put in so they're reusable which is great.

Time for another Silhouette Challenges. I do hope you'll show us what you can do. I'm anxious to see everyone's entry.

Our grandson, Elias, turns 5 in August and I've been thinking about what to make him for a card for his birthday. He is all boy and loves to play knights, vanquishing the foe and all that so I thought a Spartan Hat card would be fun to make.

It was a little bit of a challenge but I think what I ended up with looks pretty cool and hopefully the 5 year old will too. They really go for the presents the most but with Nana being a card maker I have to make a cool card to go with the gift.

To make this card I found a spartan helmet outline on the internet, brought it into my Silhouette and traced it. Then mirrored it and connected it at the top to make a card. Then I offset it and cut out just the front part from black to make a black edge around which really made it stand out. The top portion is cut from printable foil and I added some sparkle by using glitter glue.

Inside I added an oval of printable foil with "Happy Birthday to our young Spartan" on it.

Daisies In A Vase

I waited until the last minute to create favors for the last Soroptimist meeting of the year.

Because I have decided to take on the position of Chair of the Gala Garden Show our biggest fundraiser where we raise about 20K each year I decided it needed to be flowers. They needed to be easy and quick and these were.

I'm sorry I didn't write down the image I used so I can't tell you what it was but the leaves were included and I think it was a "daisy".

I highlighted the edges of each piece and shaped them with the bone folder then hot glued them to sticks.

They're bright and pretty and very eye catching. Only took me an hour to make 30 so not too bad for time either.

Six Sided Sampler and Polka Dot Butterfly

This was a fun card to make. I used the Hexagon punch page 222, Elegant Butterfly punch and Bitty Butterfly punch both on page 219.

To make the butterfly I stamped the butterfly from Polka Dot Pieces stamp set with versamark ink and embossed it with Slate Gray embossing powder. Then I used the Bitty Butterfly punch and punched out the polka-dot center and attached it to the Elegant Butterfly punched from Blackberry Bliss card stock. By attaching it just at the center fold it allows the wings to be folded up for more dimension.

The hexagons are stamped with images from the Six Sided Sampler stamp set and punch out with the hexagon punch.

Colors are Slate Gray, Blackberry Bliss, Melon Mambo and Whisper White.

Gorgeous Grunge with Hearts

Another card using some of the new colors and tools from the 2014-15 Stampin' Up! Catalog.

This is what some call a CAS card. Clean and Simple. The new tool I used for this card was the Hearts Border Punch found on page 222. This is a cute little punch that makes a great border or "ribbon" and the little hearts that get punched out are what I used on the top right corner of this card. The punched out piece I used on the inside bottom edge of the card.

The colors are Strawberry Slush, Whisper White and the new Blackberry Bliss. The stamp set is Gorgeous Grunge. The hearts are made using the Hearts Collection framelits.

The hearts rest on a strip of the new 1/4" cotton ribbon.

Very simple yet very striking. Let me know what you think.

Beautiful Bunch and Gorgeous Grunge

The new 2014-15 Stampin' Up! catalog is out and full of wonderful new products and ideas. I used the new stamp set Beautiful Bunch for the flower found on page 158. It coordinates with the new Fun Flower punch found on page 219.

The colors are Whisper White, Coastal Cabana, Calypso Coral and the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch page 22 was used to make the ribbon. The circles were made using the Circles Collection Framelits page 231.

To get the shaded look I used the "stamp off" technique with the image from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set, where you ink the stamp, stamp it off once on scrap and then stamp it on the card for a lighter less opaque look of the image. This really adds depth to your card.

I attached the flower with a Stampin' Dimensional so it is raised up a bit but not so much it won't mail.

Red, White & Blue - Patriotic Decorations

My Silhouette Challenge buddies and I are all sharing projects on our blogs today. Here is my project and then read on to see the rest of the wonderful submissions.

My dads favorite holiday was the 4th of July. Maybe that's because he was in the Marines during world war II. Because he loved the holiday so much we always celebrated in a very BIG way. We grew up on an 80 acre farm and we had a very long field beyond the house and when the 4th was coming dad would make certain to irrigate very well so we could shoot off fireworks.

Now, I'm not talking just a few little safe and sane fireworks. I'm talking the really big ones you get on the Indian reservation. Dad would start stocking up several weeks before the big day and by the time the 4th arrived he would have spent as much as six thousand dollars on fireworks.

Crazy huh! But the 6 of us kids and our friends and our parents friends and families would get together for a huge picnic, cook out and shoot fireworks non-stop from around 3 in the afternoon until about 1 am. The day time was filled with firecrackers, bottle rockets and other things and then when it got dark the really pretty ones would be brought out.

We entertained the entire neighborhood and they would plan their parties and watch our fireworks too. Yes, it was a lot of money but Dad could afford it and it brought joy to a lot of people and created memories that I will never forget and not only me but my children as well because we did this for years and years so grand kids got to get in the action as well.

Fond memories are what today's display is all about. I thought about my dad while I was making this. Dad, a marine during WWII and he NEVER spoke about the war at all EVER so I knew nothing of what that was like for him but finding some pictures of him in uniform with some of his buddies spoke volumes to me.

Enough reminiscing. On to the project. This is a table centerpiece. I designed the "fireworks" pieces myself the rest came from the Silhouette store. When I saw Jamie's pencil holders I knew right away that it would make a great holder for my "fireworks".

I didn't have to resize the bunting at all it fit perfectly around Jamie's cool pencil holder and then I added the bows and stars to dress it up a bit. The ribbon represents the sparks coming out of the fireworks. I think it's cute and it certainly is patriotic.

The materials used are all from Stampin' Up! and include Night of Navy, Real Red and Whisper White card stock and a selection of designer series papers in the appropriate colors.

Fourth Of July Card - Silhouette Challenge Teaser

The theme for this month at the Silhouette Challenge is Patriotic. This is just a sample of what I am making. You'll see an entirely different project when the hop goes live on June 9th so stay tuned for more.

I make cards every year for those family and friends who have served so faithfully in the military protecting and defending our liberties so this was an easy challenge for me. I've been thinking about what I could make for a while now.

Because I live in the United States of America the color scheme on my card will be Red, White and Blue and those three colors stand out really well against a kraft colored background.

Silhouette Challenges - Cutting Fabric

It's time for another Silhouette Challenges design team project. This time around we are cutting fabric with our Silhouette digital cutters.

I must admit it took me a while to come up with something to do for this. I used to sew, A LOT! But some time ago gave that up for other interests and haven't sewn for a very long time. So, obviously I didn't want to sew something.

I didn't want to do the standard pillow cover or fabric flower either although I've seem some beautiful creations in both. Then I came upon a tutorial by Chasing Cottons Quilt Designs Once I saw it I knew I wanted to make something like it. She used a vinyl wall art graphic for the branch but because this is a fabric cutting project I wanted to use fabric and besides I didn't want to spend money on a vinyl graphic and wait for it to come in the mail.

I bought a framed canvas 15 x 30. Then I went to the Silhouette and started looking for a branch I could use. Once I had chosen the branch I opened it up and began to resize it. This image is called Tree Border by Rivka Williams item 3708. This was the fun part, well maybe the more difficult part of the project. Because I was resizing larger than my 12" cutting margins I had to cut the project into pieces. To do this I used the knife tool to separate the sections.

These are the sections I ended up with.

I used two 12 x 12 sections and one 6 x 12 section of fabric to make the branch. How I did this is quite lengthy so I won't get into it here. I am going to try and make a tutorial on how I accomplished it and if you would like one leave me a comment and I will send it to you when it's finished.

I lucked out and Joann Fabrics was having a great sale on cotton fabrics and fat quarters so I was able to get everything I needed, including the frame for less than $20.00 and I have enough fabric to make another if I want to.

I cut the black fabric into 12 x 12 and 6 x 12 and the pieces for the birds 5 x5 and backed them all with double backed fusible interfacing. I pressed it onto the back of the fabric and then cut the designs out on the Silhouette using the fabric blade and fabric settings. They cut out beautifully. I had to do a little weeding on the smaller parts of the leaves but it wasn't bad.

Once I had all the pieces cut I began by laying out the branch pieces first. Once I had the layout where I wanted it I used my iron to attach the pieces to the canvas. Then I laid out the birds where I wanted them and ironed them on.

Lastly, I decided I wanted some words in the open space. I didn't want to cut them from fabric so I used the printable cotton canvas from Silhouette and designed and printed them onto that, framed them and cut out the frame. I inked the edges of the canvas frame with a sponge dauber, attached it because it's sticky backed and added one more bird.

It turned out quite lovely and it looks really nice on my wall. I hope you enjoy it too! Remember, leave me a comment.
