Creative Circle - New Catalog Favorite Blog Hop

WHAAAAT?!! New catalog favorite?! Yes! That is what our blog hop is featuring this month. By the time you see this you will be able to order from the new annual 2017-18 annual catalog and we hope to help you add some items to your shopping list. I hope you have your pen and shopping list handy because you are going to see some pretty spectacular displays of creativity.

If you have had your catalog in hand for a while and you're anything like me you've already started making a list of the items you think you would like to purchase. AND, if you're like me it is really hard to narrow down the list to those few absolute must haves. That is exactly how it was for me and while as a demonstrator I was able to pick a few things to play with ahead of time there is still a pretty long list of things I want to get and to try.

For now though let me share with you what I made for the hop today. I was in need of some thank you cards and I like the 3 x 3 size. I used the new In Colors and made these cards.

Aren't they lovely. From left to right the daisies are Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist, Powder Pink, Fresh Fig and Tranquil Tide.

I also used one of the little stamps to add a border to the front edge of the envelope and the bottom edge on the inside of the card.

Creative Circle March Madness Blog Hop

This month we decided to make items of our own choosing. You would think this would be an easy thing to do but it isn't necessarily because there are so many options to choose from. I knew I wanted to use current Stampin' Up! supplies and as I usually do I wanted to incorporate the use of my Silhouette Cameo cutter as well. I came up with making a "fancy fold" card. I made is the infamous "Bendy Fold" Card. A fun and easy card to make it offers a little bit of a 3D look.

This card was made using the following:

The background is created using the Brick Wall embossing folder. With the Brayer I inked the side that has the raised lines that make the grooves when it is used. On mine this is the side that has the word "Sizzix" stamped on it. I rolled lightly first just to get the raised lines inked and then pressed a little here and there to get some color on the "bricks" when pressed. It came out perfectly!

Next comes making the two pieces that will form the bendy part of the card. For this I used the Delicate Floral thinlits images that I scanned into my Silhouette. Once I brought them in I was able to add the tabs needed to attach them to the card and to fit into the slits that would hold them in place as well as background mats that would fit behind the cutout.

I used a sponge brush to brush glue on the backs of the cut out pieces and attached them to the background mats. Then I used glue to attach the flaps to the back of the base card piece. I used the Big Shot to cut out the flourish. When they are all attached this is what it looks like.

Next was figuring out where to cut the slits for the tabs to slide into. To do that I just held the right flap at about the curve I wanted to achieve and drew a pencil mark where the tab would be and then cut it with an xacto knife. I did the same with the left flap cutting a slit in the right flap.

For the back of the card I wanted to cover up the tabs so I cut a second piece of Whisper white card stock 4.25 x 5.5 and attached it the to back. To lift it just a bit so the bendy fold tab would still slide in easily I used 3 layers of glue dots just at the corners and attached it to the back of the base card.

Before attaching I stamped it with the sentiment and the flourish, both from Flourishing Phrases stamp set.

That was fun but I wanted something more to share with you today so I have some simple cards I made using the High Tide stamp set. For the monochromatic gray cards I used Smoky Slate ink pad. That was easy! No instructions necessary. I stamped directly on the base card, no mat, no layers no fuss. They really do look great!

For the two colored images I created a mat for the "beach" and the lighthouse cutting them out of regular copy paper with my Silhouette but you could fussy cut them too. I have Tombow removable adhesive that I placed on the back of the mats so they would stay in place.

Here is how I made the scene:

Place the light house first and then the "beach" piece over that.
Stamp the water. For the blue lighthouse card I used Dapper Denim for both the lighthouse and the water but the water I stamped off once so it was a lighter blue. For the red lighthouse I used Pacific Point and did not stamp off
Peel away the "beach" mat. With a sponge dab the beach with Crumb Cake ink. Then using the small "ground" stamp stamp over the sponged area to give it more depth and texture
Using Basic Gray ink pad stamp all the birds
Using Early Espresso stamp the grass
Peel away the lighthouse mat, stamp the lighthouse. I used a Stamp a ma Jig to line mine up.

One tip, the Basic Gray ink pad is no longer available and the Smoky Slate wasn't dark enough to work over the Crumb Cake. Also, I discovered that the Basic Gray soaked through the Whisper White card stock and showed on the back side so when I make these again I will create a layer that will attach to the card front so I don't have to worry about bleed through.

Again, fairly easy, save those mats they can be reused. I stick mine to the inside of the stamp case so they are there if I need them again.

Creative Circle - Great Occasions Blog Hop

Welcome to the Creative Circle Great Occasions Blog Hop where our team is showcasing sets from the Occasions and Sale-a-Bration catalogs. By now all of you have at least a few stamps and dies and maybe a couple of other items too and we just want to show you some of the things you can do with all that wonderful "stuff" and if you don't have what we share then maybe you'll consider ordering it from one of us :)

Last month I shared a Valentine screen that I made using shapes from the Silhouette Store. It was a lot of fun and it reminded me of a project I saw a long time ago. It was a card made very similar to the screen but I didn't have to have my Cameo to make it. (Although, I could still use it....BWG)

I call this a card because it will fold up and fit inside a standard A2 envelope although it might require extra postage if you were going to mail it because it gets a little bulky.

Here is my Special Reason You're So Beautiful card:

How To:

Cut the base accordian fold card 5.5 x 11
Place the base on the Simply Scored scoring tool landscape orientation and use the stylus to score at 2.75, 5.5, 8.25.
Center the Decorative label punch in the center of each section and punch out just half of the label to make the legs
Use the Heart Border punch to put the heart border across the top edge -save the hearts that get punched out to use later as embellishments.
Cut four pieces Pink Pirouette 2 5/8 x 4 1/8 these are the mats for the art pieces
Cut four pieces Whisper White 2.5 x 4 these are the art pieces
Stamp the dancing lady from the Beautiful You stamp set using Basic Black ink onto one of the white pieces and on the DSP
Cut out the dress and the hat, run them through the Xyron sticker maker and attach to the image stamped on the white cardstock
Stamp and cut several flowers and leaves with the various inks and papers. I just cut a bunch laid them out and started building.

When I started embellishing the four panels I put some temporary tape on my work surface and attached them to it so they all lined up then when they were separated the designs would match up from panel to panel. The picture below shows the art pieces almost completed. I used my exacto knife to cut the embellishments that overlapped each of the seams then attached each section to the mat and the mat to the card base.

Once everything was attached to the card base I attached a few hearts that I saved from the border and the card was done.

One thing I need to share, I used the 5" Xyron sticker maker for all the flowers,leaves and dress. Once it is run through the Xyron I run my stylus around all the outside and inside edges so that there isn't any sticky where I don't want it. It takes a little time but it's worth the effort and it makes placing the embellishments so much easier than trying to glue those fine cut lines.

Now, like I said, you don't have to have a Cameo to make this card. Buuuut.... I used it to make my base. Below is a screen shot of how I laid it out. I used the grid marks to put the score lines in the right place. I saved it because I might want to make this card again and I won't have to figure it all out or try to remember the measurements. And you all know that I scan in all of my punch, framelits, thinlits into my Silhouette Cameo library so I can use them there, right? I also scan in stamped images and create cut outs for them with the trace tool which makes for less fussy cutting when I want to layer. There are a few cases where that doesn't work but most of the time it does. Doing this multiplies what I can do with my investment in Stampin' Up! supplies.

Now that I have a card I want to make a gift box to go along with it and what better bundle to use than the Window Box Thinlits and the Window Shopping stamp set.

I used the same materials that I did for the card with two additional items. I used the Cupcake Cutout Framelits and the Window Shopping stamp set to make the banner you'll see on the lid.

I used a combination of the Silhouette Cameo, Die set and table top cutter to cut out all the pieces. I have all the pieces scanned into my Silhouette Cameo so I cut out the box pieces, the flowers, and leaves using the Cameo. I cut some leaves and flowers from white and then I stamped them after they were cut. It's really easy to do and if you're particular about lining them up just use the Stamp a ma Jig. The offset DSP mat and the white art pieces used on the top and inside the lid I resized and cut with my Cameo. See how combining the Cameo and Stampin' Up! exponentially increases what you can create?!

To save some scrolling time I have made the pictures a bit smaller but if you click on them you can see them full size.

The pieces I prepared to make the box.

The stamped and attached embellishment pieces. I lined up the art pieces and attached them to my work surface with temporary tape so they wouldn't move while I was working with them.

Once it was completed I used an Xacto knife to cut the seams where images overlapped.

The art pieces for the sides of the box are all cut and ready to be used.

The outside of the box with the art pieces attached. Lay out the box pieces this way so that all the art pieces are right side up when the box is assembled.

The inside of the box. This is how it will look, I didn't attach the DSP pieces yet. I will do that after assembly so the tabs will be covered by the DSP for a nice clean look inside. I did attached the mat and art piece on the lid.

Once the inside and outside are embellished it was time to put it together.

Start by attaching the bottom and top pieces together.

Once the box was assembled I used Snail to attach the DSP panels and bottom to the inside of the box.

Lastly, I added the DSP mat, a white art piece, some embellishments and a banner to the outside of the lid.

This was fun to make. It took some time but for the special someone it is worth it. Detailed Santa Thinlits & Silhouette Cameo

With Christmas coming in just about 10 weeks it is time to give Christmas cards some serious attention. I am a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and I bought the Detailed Santa Thinlits set and sat down today to see what others had made using this cute die set. I came across this example made by Betty at Sweet Irene's Inspirations.

Cute isn't it? I really liked the way Betty put the face color behind the face and the sparkly red hat on. On her page she tells you she cut the background pieces for the face and beard free hand and used the die for the black pieces and the red hat.

BUT, I'm a Silhouette Cameo user as well as a Stampin' UP! Demonstrator and I want to make more than one or two of these and I don't like to spend that much time cutting so here is what I did.

I used the die to cut one image out of Basic Black card stock, scanned it as a jpeg, saved it and opened it up in my Silhouette software. (all images increase to full size if you click on them)
Then I opened the trace window, prepared the image for tracing and traced it
Now, I had an image to work with

Next, I made a duplicate of the traced image so I had one that remained complete and one to work with to make the background and filler shapes I needed.
Setting the duplicate aside, I released the compound path on the remaining image and removed the outside border. Once this was done I pulled away the black pieces and the red hat piece

Next, I grouped the pieces that made up the face area and the pieces that made up the background for the beard without moving them so that they maintained their basic overall shape. I separated the grouped face piece from the grouped beard piece so I had room to work and used the Polygon tool to trace around the grouped images. To perfect the outline so it was as close as possible I used the Edit Points tool. In the image you'll see the outlines I created in black.
To make the front card layer I took the original image and again removed the border. I created a rectangle 4 x 5.25 and centered the image in it with an even gap at the top and grouped it to make the layer.

Now I was ready to cut. I cut the black pieces from Basic Black, the face piece from Pink Pirouette, the hat from Real Red Glimmer Paper and the beard and hat pom pom from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.

Assembly is next. First, I attached the face piece because it and the beard piece overlap just a bit on the backside so it needed to go on first. I used Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky Glue put it on the back of the card layer and attached the face piece. Next I attached the pom pom backing and last the beard backing all the same way, by using glue on the backside

This is what the piece will look like so far. I then turned it over one more time and placed glue all around the edges and on the centers and attached the layer to the card front.
After it was attached I put glue in the openings where the red and black pieces would go and inserted them into the openings. Once those pieces were inserted I used a Project Life journaling pen to add dots for the eyes and a cotton swap with Pink Pirouette ink to add the cheek color.

I didn't have the stamp set with the cute Ho,Ho, Ho, the Betty used so I found one in Silhouette store and cut it out of Whisper White. It is made by Simple Stories design #70171.
I did resize it to 1.310 tall by .974 wide so it would fit on the card. Because it is a delicate piece and hard to glue I used the Xyron sticker maker to place adhesive on the back. When I used this I take a stylus, the smaller end and run it around the outside edges and around all inside openings. This makes the glue stay away from where I don't want it. Then all I have to do is peel and stick.

I stamped the Merry Christmas from the Hang Your Stockings stamp set in black and the card was complete. I hope you like it.

Bunch Of Blossoms & Jar Of Love

This card was originally designed by Sharon Burkert of As The Ink Dries. Of course I added my own touched to the design but I wanted to give credit to Sharon. I checked out her blog after I made this card and Sharon shares some really cool ideas for using the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set and Blossom Builder Punch. You should check it out, just click on the name of her blog above and then scroll through her posts. You won't be disappointed.

In the meantime here is my rendition.

The colors don't show very true in my photo but I used Sweet Sugarplum and Rich Razzleberry for the flowers, Rich Razzleberry for the bow, Pool Party for the water, Old Olive and Pear Pizzazz for the leaves and stems.

I like how it turned out, hope you do too. Let me know what you would do different.

Bunch of Blossoms & Brick Wall

No I didn't hit a brick wall. BWG I used the Brick Wall embossing folder to make the background for this card. This card was cased from Patty Bennett and you can see her details by clicking

I didn't read her blog before I made my version opting instead to just figure it out as best I could but she has a really cool suggestion for the background design.

I stamped the flower and flower center with Peek a Boo Peach, Pumpkin Pie and Watermelon Wonder. The leaves I stamped with Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive. The dark part of the center I just punched from Early Espresso. The background I used Crumb Cake and the Brayer tool to ink the raised side of the embossing folder and then ran it through the big shot.

I used the bone folder to curve the flower petals and leaves and attached them with a glue dot at the tip so they would stay curled. A little bit of the fat Baker's Twine for the finishing touch. There is room at the top to add a sentiment if you choose, I just make all my cards blank.

Flourish & Butterfly Thinlits Acetate Card

To really enjoy this card you must make one and see it up close and personal. My pictures do not begin to catch the striking beauty of this card. That being said let me tell you how I made it. There are some tricks to it and putting it together in sequence is really important. So read on and see how to make this card.

For the cards I use for workshops, especially those that have details too lengthy to remember I make a "Project Planner" sheet. This sheet lists the Stamps, Papers, Inks, and accessories used to make the card along with page number, item number and cost and then includes a picture and instructions as well. Those who attend the workshop get one to take home with them so they can duplicate the card at home. Usually my customers use this sheet and order everything I used to make the card.

My customers really like these. If you would like a copy for this project, just leave me a text and I will send it out to you. If you like it, let me know. If you want to share it please send them to my blog to leave a comment and I'll sent it out to them.

For now I'll just list things here for you:

NON Stampin' Up! tool - Xyron Sticker Maker 5"

Cut the Whisper White card stock 4.25" x 11", using the score pal, score at 5.5" and fold. This is the base

Cut 2.75" off the front of the base - save this piece and cut it down to 2.75" x 4"

Cut Floral Boutique DSP 5.5" x 4.25" - the design I chose had a pattern that I needed to make sure I oriented my cut so it would be the right orientation. Attach this to the inside of the base card, it will cover the entire inside back flap.

Now you can attach the 2.75" x 4" Whisper white piece you cut down to the inside of the card. Tight to the fold line and centered left to right.

Cut 4 pieces of Floral Boutique .25" x 4.25" - attache Tear & Tape tape to the back side of each piece.

Cut Window Sheet 4.25" x 3"

Attach on of the Floral Boutique strips to the edge of the window sheet, turn it over and attach another to back side, same edge.

Put a piece of Tear and Tape adhesive on the facing of the short front card flap.

Line up the Window sheet piece with the bottom edge of the card back and lay in place over the adhesive edge of the front flap. To do it this way assures perfect alignment.

Now use the last two strips of Floral Boutique attaching one strip to the front of the card covering the edge of the acetate and opening up the card front and attaching the last piece to the inside at the same seam. This way the card looks good both from the outside and the inside.

Use the Butterflies Thinlits die medium butterfly to cut one from Whisper White

Use the Flourish Thinlits flouris die to cut one from Night of Navy

Run these pieces through the Xyron sticker maker. After running them through use your stylus and run around all the inside cuts and the outline. this makes the sticky stay where you want it and not where you don't. Don't skip this step or you'll have sticky where you don't want it. Once it's done, peel away the clear coating.

Gently peel up the Butterfly and attach it to the Window sheet section of the card front. The peel up the flourish and attach it as shown. Depending on how you lay the flourish it may have edges that go off the card, if they do just trim them off.

And there you have it. Beautiful isn't it?

Swirly Bird & Weather Together

We all want to be frugal with our card making and crafts, right? That is why when the new Stampin' Up! catalog came out I looked for which new stamp set would have the most versatility. Being able to make several different designs that can be used for different seasons and applications is important to me when choosing which stamp set to purchase.

With that in mind I purchased two bundles from the new catalog.

The "Weather Together" stamp set with the "Umbrella Weather" framelits a bundle found on page 55 of the catalog item#142319 $41.25

and the "Swirly Bird" stamp set with the "Swirly Scribbles" thinlits on page 152 item#142353 $46.75.

Weather Together Swirly Bird

As a Stampin' Up! demonstrator I have to say this year's catalog is full of amazing "bundles". Stamp sets with either framelits or thinlits to cut out the images. I purchased two sets from the new catalog. The "Swirly Bird" stamp set and the "Swirly Scribbles" thinlits and the "Weather Together" stamp set with the "Umbrella Weather" framelits.

Either set has mulitple design possibilities and together they offer even more. AND, because I am a Silhouette Cameo user as well I made a card using my wonderful machine in combination with the stamps.

Let me explain how I achieved this look.

First I went into my Silhouette Cameo library and found the "Cloud Border" image #2320. Yes, a really old one from way back, this one was designed by Silhouette. The image was too large so it needed to be resized but that is soooo easy. I just chose the "Scale" window, left the "lock aspect" on and made it 4.25" long since that was the width of the card I was making. I then made a rectangle using the "Draw A Rectangle" tool and sized it 4.25" by 5".

Next I overlapped the cloud border with the rectangle

Last, I selected both images and used the "Welding too" to attach them to each other.

This gave me the white layer for my card. Then I used the clouds from the Umbrella Weather framelits set to cut out the two clouds. I saved the two cutouts and stamped them with the stamp from the Weather Together stamp set. Always trying to save scraps you know. BWG! I then stamped and cut out one more large cloud.

The kites are stamps from the Swirly Bird stamp set. There are two stamps to make them, one is the solid sections and the other the striped sections. I found that it was easier to line up the pieces when stamping if I stamped the solid piece first and then the striped piece. The striped piece is a little easier to see through and makes lining up the images a little bit easier. It is tricky though and I do suggest practicing on scrap paper first to get the "feel" for it before stamping on your card stock. I stamped these on separate pieces of Whisper White card stock and then just free hand cut them out.

The clouds and kites are attached with Stampin' Dimensionals. The white background is attached with glue dots, this gives it just a little bit of lift off the card front without adding too much bulk to the overall thickness of the card.

I used the Project LIfe .01 black pen to hand draw the strings on the kites and added the bows using the stamp from Swirly Bird.

I also added a stamped cloud and a kite to the inside of the card.

The cardstock used is Pacific Point and Whisper White. The inks used are Pacific Point and Crushed Curry.

What a fun combination! Stampin' Up! papers and card stock and Silhouette Cameo Electronic cutter and design software. The two go together like "horse and carriage", peanut butter and jelly or lock, stock and barrel.

To make this card I utilized the design features of the Silhouette Cameo software to put together the layout concept and to bring in the giraffe and balloon graphic and text. It's so easy to bring in a jpg or pdf graphic and size it to fit the design. When designing a project I add colors to the pieces so that I get an idea of what the finished project will look like. You can size all the layers, add a scallop edge and know that everything will fit just as it looks on the screen.

I then took the designed concept and printed and cut graphic pieces and assembled the remainder of the card with various pieces cut from card stock and designer paper.

The graphics and text printed perfectly on the Whisper White card stock. The rest of the card is built using Basic Gray and Smokey Slate card stock and the neutrals designer series polka dot paper in basic gray. It looks like black in the photo but the basic card is Basic Gray which is a dark gray.
