A 3D item recently added to the Silhouette Store is the Rose Lantern item 116079 by JMRush. This is a lovely lantern project, very well designed and extremely easy to cut and assemble. The colors can be adjusted to suit a variety of occasions and it really is a timeless piece.
Because it is so near to Valentines day I chose to make the rose pink. Actually they are "Blushing Bride" card stock and Glimmer Paper. I am a Stampin' Up! demonstrator so I use Stampin' Up! materials and accessories almost exclusively. They work quite well with the Silhouette Cameo and I love the way the colors all coordinate.
I had recently acquired the Botanical Gardens Designer Vellum Stack FREE from the Sale-a-bration catalog and decided that I would use it for the vellum background on the lantern. It gives it much more appeal and distinction than just plain vellum.
The roses background is cut from Blushing Bride card stock and the overlay is cut from the Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper available in the current Occasions Catalog. This also cut very well on my Silhouette with a setting of 8 for the blade and a double cut.
The leaves are made from Mossy Meadow in color card stock and Old Olive card stock.
Lastly I stayed with the black card stock for the lantern and base although you could change that up if you wanted to.
A couple of tips:
- I used Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky glue to assemble the lantern, base, leaves and rose embellishment.
- To attach the glimmer paper overlays to the background I used Zig two way squeezable glue pen because it lets me put just a small dot of glue all around and it sticks well.
- I resized the project so that I could use the 6x6 pieces of vellum. The size for I cut the vellum was H6" x W3.25
- You use flameless battery powered tea lights to illuminate the lantern. I have three different kinds. Steady White, Flicker Yellow and Color Changing. I used the color changing lights and it made the lantern very beautiful and eye catching.
- I also added a round Epoxy Sticker that I colored with an alcohol marker to the center of the rose embellishment.
- To see the tutorial for how to assemble you can follow this link http://jmrushdesigns.blogspot.com/2016/01/rose-lantern-flameless.html but I didn't need the tutorial this project is so straight forward.
I think they are lovely. Hope you are inspired to give it a try.
Enjoy!
