It's been a while since I posted anything on my blog. I usually save the blog for details that are too lengthy to share on facebook. Most of you visiting have probably come from Facebook and I'm glad you've come to visit.
I bought the Treat Cup files from Cutting Cafe and I made the Snowman Treat Cup Card. It turned out really cute and it was fairly easy to make.
Easy to make is important to me because I usually make large amounts of a project to share with friends and if it is too time consuming I just won't make it.
I made 35 of these to share with friends at Bible Study, Worship Team, Family and Friends.
I am a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and so I use their products for just about everything I make. I do have a couple of tips to share though that you will want to read on to discover.
I save all of my Designer Series Papers and most of these are from past catalogs but there are some new designs out that would work just as well.
Of course these are cut out using my Silhouette Cameo. The greatest machine EVER!
The sparkly parts of the snowman are cut from Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.
The eyes, mouth and cheeks are colored on with permanent markers. This was way easy and saved me trying to glue on those little pieces onto the glitter surface. Not to mention just dealing with all those little pieces!
I printed the sentiment with my printer onto clear sticker paper and cut it out with the Silhouette also.
Now, I have to say I had a hard time finding the instructions on the website and they were a little bit vague but I was able to figure out everything eventually.
Now some info on what I did different. For one thing I didn't cut the retangle piece. It is designed to go around the treat cup part and I didn't feel I needed it so I left it off.
Also for the glimmer ring that covers the front of the treat cup I centered it into the hole of the snow man to save material.
I didn't cut out the larger ring circle either, didn't need it. Saving more material. I also did not cut out the eyes, mouth or cheek pieces.
You will find that depending on what you put in your treat cup the card will be too heavy to fold like a conventional card so I folded mine in reverse. You can see how it sits in the first picture I posted.
Once I've resized, adjusted and deleted unwanted pieces I add text with information I will need next time I make it and then save it all to my Silhouette Library with a picture so it's easy to find again and I don't have to go through all those steps again. When you save to your library be sure to edit the preferences and add search terms, title and who the original artist was.
It helps a lot when building the treat cup to curl the edge of the cup. I did this by pulling it over the curved edge of my work table.
Then I put glue on it as shown.
Turned the "lid" part of the treat cup over and attached the edge.
Oh, and I have to tell you I am always into re-purposing whenever I can and the clear acetate center of the treat cup is cut from the acetate covers that come off the cutting mats I use in my Cameo. I save those and it comes in real handy. I used Crystal effects to glue the acetate into place. It works on non porous surfaces and it held very well.
Another tip, to line up the holes of the inside slider piece and the front I put the glue up the sides and across the bottom (the top isn't glued that is where the slider goes in) and then laid the card base over the slider piece. It was way easier to center the slider hole and since I use glue instead of tape I have a little time for minor adjustments before I can't move it any more.
That's another thing. I use Alene's Quick Dry tacky glue to build my 3D projects. After having made dozens of projects I have found that NONE of the tapes hold long term. The tacky glue litterally bonds the the papers together and they do not come apart.
Enjoy!
